Red Carpet Ready

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

As all fashionistas are aware by now, the awards season is upon us and the count down to Oscar night is on! As I write this post, I am watching Live from the Red Carpet on the E! channel cover the SAG Awards. I must say I am much more impressed with the dresses at the Screen Actors Guild Awards than I was for the Golden Globes.

Fabulous Tulle Confection

Fabulous Tulle Confection

Nancy is particularly loving the beautiful confection of the dress Angie Harmon is wearing by Monique L’Huillier, as am I. I am also loving the Carolina Herrera black and gold lace gown that January Jones chose, which is quite the departure from the red hot Versace number she wore at the Globes. I also think that Nicole Kidman’s Nina Ricci gown is stunning. I love the lace back. Overall, I am impressed with several of the nominees and presenters choices.

Watching all of the beautiful dresses has inspired me to put together a few fabulous Red Carpet Ready looks from new pieces on Covet Shop that would make any girl stop traffic and a dead ringer for a Hollywood starlet….

My first ensemble would be…

Kate in a fabulous corset bustier with black gloves

My all time favorite mannequin, other than “the shrimp”, is without a doubt Kate Moss. I am sure many of you readers would agree with me…

It all started many, many years ago when I saw that first layout of Miss Moss for British Mag – The Face. She was clad in just some bloomers and a paper crown. No one photographs like Kate. Her face is just amazing and she knows, better than anyone, how to work it for the camera.

A few years ago she starred in a short film, by Mike Figgis, for a special collaboration with Agent Provocateur to promote their stunning under-pinings. I am super excited that Agent Provocateur is opening an uptown location on Madison very soon. I will be able to check out their exquisite lingerie more frequently…

The iconic images were released in a limited edition book, so I thought I would share some of them with my fashionable covet shop readers…

I think these are some of the best lingerie photos taken of Kate…

The red satin is beautiful; love the hair and make-up, sort of reminds of both Jean and Brigitte

Covet Shoposcope – Pisces

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Happy Birthday, Pisces! To celebrate your unique combination of creativity, natural style, dreaminess and escapism (and, on the flip side — your over-emotional nature, sneakiness and penchant for hedonism), we’ve put together some fish-worthy Covet Shop picks for you this month.  But first, our round-up of stylish celebrity Pisces — who are naturally drawn to careers in the arts. We couldn’t resist including a brooding Benecio Del Toro, this Richard Avedon shot of Elizabeth Taylor, or my girl crush…Juliette Binoche.

Vintage Chanel

Pisces are typically found enjoying the finer things in life, such as strolling Via Montenapoleone or attending an exclusive museum fundraiser. What to wear? This Chanel pant suit, of course.

Water Sign Frocks, and Nails to Match

Since I only discovered new BFFs, Ginger + Liz during Fashion Week at the Robert Verdi Luxe Laboratory Suite, I hadn’t included them in my nail polish round up last week. So in honor of these two gorgeous ladies and their polish collection (which is free of toluene, formaldehyde or DBP), here are two of their smokin’ shades paired with some new Covet Shop outfits.

Last But Not Least – Shoes

Because Pisces must always maintain an air of mystery and left-of-center edge, let’s not forget important details such as shoes. God forbid a Pisces should ever have to wear dreary loafers or simple pumps, so we’ve put together these selections for the more boho Pisces – perfect for spending the workday lounging around at your friend’s studio drinking sangria, or sneaking off for an illicit tryst.

Spring 2010 Fashion Week Wrap-Up, NYC

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Editors and fashionistas have packed up for Europe, but if NY Fashion Week is an indicator we look forward to the British, French and Italian interpretations of the upcoming spring 2010 nod to contrasts: Manic prints opposed to sexy tailoring; breezy looks against architectural; and past versus future. We can’t wait to start our Covet Shopping for spring in 3-4 months, so you’ll be able to mix our online designer clothes with the season’s latest in-store hits.

Manic Prints, Sexy Tailoring

Whether bold, floral, tribal or frisky, we absolutely can’t get enough of prints for spring—which ranged from graphic and festive (Marc by Marc Jacobs) to nature-inspired (Zero + Maria Cornejo, Costello Tagliapietra). Our hats off in particular to Brooklyn-based Costello Tagliapietra (who lives in my ’hood) for their waterless printing technique called AirDye—as reported by WWD—and to Anna Sui, whose opening look transported me back to my ’70s baton-twirling summers…

Or if you’re not feeling quite so explosive, try these tailored looks from Rachel Roy and 3.1 Phillip Lim, who paired a gathered neck, double breasted maxi vest with “Hardy” bootcut trousers.

Feeling Breezy, or More Structured?

Donna Karan was lauded for the creativity and delicate splendor of her collection, while Matthew Ames found inspiration in geometry and color expression to celebrate “the freedom, ease and simplicity of American design.”

Looking to the Past…or the Future?

You choose. Here, one of Zac Posen’s chicadelic creations for spring, and Victor De Souza’s presentation of designs that have an “…avant-garde and futuristic feel while being light, playful and sophisticated.” It was a smashing month for Argentina indeed: Del Potro takes the US Open, and De Souza (also Argentinean) hit the fashion jackpot with a cover and spread in Vogue Italia’s September Couture edition. Fabulous. (We also liked that some models had alien-esque paraffin gloves—with nails peeking out—courtesy of Creative Nail Design.)

Last Days of Summer…

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

We are excited with the Fall fashion arriving at our favorite stores. But this doesn’t mean we are at all looking forward to the cold that accompanies with the change in fashion. We are still coming across amazing summer pieces that we just simply can’t pass up. One being this Stella McCartney Double Layer Dress as seen on Lindsay Lohan. It is the most beautiful green color and makes a good transitional piece.
