Click Your Heels

Monday, September 14th, 2009

It’s September already, and if you’re like us you’ve been lusting after a dream pair of new shoes (or boots) that will make your daily routine feel like a trip to Oz. Although we still have some time to keep wearing our summer dresses and sandals, fall fashion is so enticing that it actually makes us excited for cooler weather.

Fortunately, many of the trends that we loved from previous seasons are still prominent fixtures this fall, but with an updated (and often 80s) twist: Leggings are torn and ripped as modern grunge look; booties feature tiny peep-toes, tapered heels and hardware embellishments; pumps boast hidden platforms; Mary Janes stand out; and – while we still prefer the season’s pointy stilettos, the higher the better — flats make a comeback to complement a new androgyny.

However, the (literally) biggest shoe trend this season will be OTK (over the knee) and thigh-high boots.

Cases in point: Brian Atwood’s boot, left, or this bad-girl Hussein Chalayan ensemble in New York Magazine’s fall fashion issue (at right).

We covet the YSL Trib Two pump — hard to find, but easy to spot on celebs — as well as YSL’s hot red patent pumps and these smoking studded platforms by Miu Miu. Or, zip into something embellished with this flower-toe Giuseppe Zanottis.

Or, choose from any number of fall’s cut-out booties. These are by Valentino, but other stand-outs are a zip version from Sergio Rossi, or Prada’s Cutout Shoe bootie.
